My Story
I am a visual artist, wife and mother of two teenage boys. Those pursuits continue
to be the yoga practice of my life. I didn’t grow up doing yoga, dance or anything
in particular with my body other than running, jumping and climbing to the top of tall trees. I
found yoga asana in 1998. Although the physical practice didn’t come naturally
to me, the spiritual and emotional aspects immediately changed my life. I began scheduling
my days around my asana practice, classes and meditation.
Shortly after I began teaching in 2002, I met John Friend. I was instantly
drawn to his humor, kindness and his amazing attention to the individual in a conference
class of over 200 students. The practice was physically challenging and invigorating. Although
I knew nothing of his alignment language, I could see that it would be the key to my really
beginning to understand and finally connect to my body. With the support of my family and
especially my husband, I have traveled the country to study with John as much as possible. Practicing
with John and the Anusara kula has shifted me. I have softened in my practice and my
attitude towards life, towards myself and my relationship with others.
I am dedicated to the heart opening, loving qualities and alignment principles
of Anusara. As an artist, I am drawn to the creative and elegant quality of yoga postures.
My art has always addressed societal need for conformity. I realize one of the many things
I appreciate about Anusara is that it respects individuality while it supports community. My
teaching emphasizes self-honoring, loving-kindness and aspiring to the highest that is within
each of us.
My training
I am a Yoga Alliance Registered Teacher at the E-RYT
500 level. My training includes over 450 hours with John Friend, Anusara's
founder, including both levels 1 and 2 teacher trainings, therapeutics, Master Immersion
and Master Teacher Training. In addition, I have assisted senior certified teacher Todd Norian
and taken workshops with other senior certified Anusara teachers as well as Douglas Brooks,
Tantric philosophy scholar. My initial training was a 240 hour Yoga Alliance registered
teacher training and I have taken workshops with many of the top yoga teachers in the country. |
