The North Raleigh 2008 Immersion Series

I’m pleased to invite you to join me and a group of dedicated students to journey into the heart through a deeper study of Anusara Yoga. In this three part series, we will explore all the dimensions of tapping into Grace through a balance of practice, study and community.

This expanding Immersion is designed to gently guide us to explore the practices of asana, meditation and pranayama, the study of philosophy, scriptural texts, structural and subtle anatomy and the sharing of community through discussion, journaling, and partnering.

I welcome each of you to step into this opportunity from right where you are to unfold a rich and transformational experience. As we travel together through the currents of Grace we will discover our own true natures through the co-creation of vibrant bodies, sharp minds and radiant hearts.

“All the rough edges that confront you won’t hold you back.
If you persevere, they will actually help you to go further,
to travel deeper into the ocean of knowledge, the ocean of love”

- Gurumayi Chidvilasananda

Part 1 The Launching: Guiding our vessels to the Gateway of the heart
3-12 hr weekends: February 23-24, March 29-30, April 26-27
, 2008

Together our journey begins through the practice of level 1 asana using balanced action and incorporating the Anusara Universal principles of alignment. We will explore the riches of yoga history, overview the basic philosophical schools and the Tantric vision of Anusara. Students will be introduced to Patanjali’s Yoga sutras, the 8 limbs of Yoga and basic structural anatomy of the lower body. The sweet fragrance of the lotus will be revealed as we partake in basic breathing and concentration meditation practices together and share insights through journaling and discussion.

Part 2 The Currents: Floating on the river of Grace
3-12 hr weekends: May 17-18, June 21-22, July 19-20
, 2008

As we travel further into the currents of Grace, the level 2 asana syllabus will be introduced and the refinements of the back body principles and the loops will be explored. Our hearts will be opened to Bhakti yoga through study and discussion of the Bhagavad Gita the epic poem of the Mahabharata. We’ll learn the about upper body anatomy, study the science of Ayurveda and delve deeper into breathing and expansive meditation practices. Our path down the river of grace will lead us into a richer awareness of Tantric philosophy and how it can expand our hearts and lives as we, like the lotus, are rooted deep but also float softly in the light.

Part 3 The Landing: Embracing our Divine travel companion
3-12 hr weekends: August 16-17, September 13-14, October 18-19, 2008

Our Journey will culminate into a playful expansion of the physical practice through further exploration of the level 2 syllabus. The art of sequencing progressively and using modifications to learn the steps will guide us into opening the body for more advanced postures. Connection to community will deepen as we investigate approaches to creating a home practice, share insights of our understanding and experience integrated approaches to meditation and additional pranayama techniques together. Through our expanded awareness we will taste the nectar of the lotus as we study all 36 Tantric tattvas and discuss the Splender of Recognition, a translation of the Divine pulsation of the Universe.

Patience Armstrong is known for bringing the teachings of yoga off the mat into how we approach life in general. Her clear systematic teaching style makes even complicated information accessible. She had the unique experience of being mentored through the certification process by John Friend, Anusara’s founder. She is deeply indebted to him for all his teachings and for helping her to open her heart to the loving light of Grace. Patience is a Yoga Alliance Registered teacher at the E-RYT 500 level. If you are a teacher or are aspiring to become one, immersion hours with Patience can be accredited toward Anusara Inspired licensing and prerequisite hours for Anusara teacher training and certification, as well as extended education hours through Yoga Alliance. If teaching is not part of your journey, Patience will guide you to deepen your practice and connect to the true teacher within.
